A meta-analysis of 14 studies on elite athletes found a pooled visual RT mean of 200 ms, with sprinters and table-tennis players at the fast end (~180 ms) and endurance athletes at the slow end (~225 ms).
Why athletes sit at 200 ms
Sports that demand explosive response to a moving ball or opponent train the same visual-to-motor pathway that gamers train — but with full-body movement bolted on.
What this means for you
If your own reaction time is close to 200 ms, you are sitting in the same neighbourhood as the typical athletes on this site. That is interesting context, not a verdict. Group averages reflect population-level tendencies — individual variation within any group is much larger than the differences between groups.
The honest way to use this number is as a benchmark. If you want to move toward the athletes average, the activities that group practises (action gaming for gamers, instrument practice for musicians, karting for drivers) are the most direct route.
